Overview

Adimlecleucel (ATA230, CYT-101) is an investigational allogeneic, off-the-shelf cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) immunotherapy. It consists of donor-derived T cells sensitized to target cytomegalovirus (CMV) antigens, specifically the pp65 and IE1 proteins. Developed by Atara Biotherapeutics and its spin-out Cyteph, in collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, the therapy utilizes HLA-matched T cells to recognize and eliminate CMV-infected cells or CMV-positive tumor cells. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of refractory CMV viremia and disease in immunocompromised patients (such as hematopoietic cell and solid organ transplant recipients), congenital CMV infections, and CMV-positive glioblastoma multiforme and astrocytoma. In oncological applications, it is often evaluated in combination with checkpoint inhibitors like pembrolizumab to enhance the immune response against CMV-positive tumor cells.
