Overview

AdipoRaMab is a monoclonal antibody developed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma that acts as an agonist of adiponectin receptors 1 and 2 (AdipoR1 and AdipoR2). It is designed to mimic the effects of adiponectin, a hormone involved in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism. By activating these receptors, AdipoRaMab promotes phosphorylation of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), enhancing insulin sensitivity in muscle and liver tissues. Preclinical studies have shown that it ameliorates glucose intolerance in high-fat diet–fed mice, reduces inflammation-related factors such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), increases genes related to energy expenditure, and exhibits anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects in models of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The drug is being investigated for its potential use in type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease[1][2][3][5].
