Adipose-derived expanded stem cells (ASCs) are a population of multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from adipose tissue, typically via liposuction, and subsequently expanded in vitro to achieve therapeutic cell numbers. These cells possess significant immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties, mediated primarily through the secretion of paracrine factors such as growth factors and cytokines. In clinical applications, ASCs are investigated for their ability to promote tissue repair and restore functional integrity in various conditions. In the context of feminine stress urinary incontinence (SUI), expanded autologous ASCs are locally injected into the urethral sphincter to improve muscle tone and structural support. The program mentioned in the context is a Phase II clinical trial (NCT04103190) sponsored by the Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital Universitario La Paz (FIBHULP).
