Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) are a type of multipotent stromal cell derived from adipose tissue, offering a rich and accessible source for regenerative medicine. These cells are characterized by their ability to differentiate into multiple lineages, including bone, cartilage, and fat, and are widely studied for their potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. AD-MSCs function primarily through paracrine signaling, releasing a variety of cytokines, chemokines, and extracellular vesicles that promote tissue healing and suppress pathological immune responses. In clinical development, they are being investigated for a broad range of indications, most notably degenerative joint diseases like knee osteoarthritis, autoimmune disorders, and inflammatory conditions. They can be prepared as autologous or allogeneic therapies and are typically delivered via local injection or intravenous infusion.
