Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) are multipotent stromal cells isolated from adipose tissue that possess significant regenerative and immunomodulatory properties. In the context of the clinical trial led by Heba Mohamed Saad Eldien (NCT03740256), these cells are being evaluated for their efficacy in treating atrophic scars following surgical scar revision. ADSCs function primarily through paracrine signaling, secreting a variety of growth factors and cytokines—such as VEGF, FGF, and TGF-beta—that promote angiogenesis, stimulate dermal fibroblast proliferation, and modulate extracellular matrix remodeling. The study investigates the use of autologous ADSCs both as a monotherapy and in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to improve the aesthetic and functional outcomes of scar revision procedures.
