This therapeutic candidate is an investigational combination of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) and a hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogel, developed by the Fundación Pública Andaluza para la Investigación de Málaga en Biomedicina y Salud (FIMABIS) for the treatment of faecal incontinence. The treatment involves the local injection of autologous or allogeneic ADMSCs suspended within a biocompatible HA hydrogel into the anal sphincter. The HA hydrogel serves as a temporary scaffold that provides immediate mechanical bulking effects and creates a supportive microenvironment to enhance the retention, survival, and integration of the stem cells. The ADMSCs are intended to promote tissue repair and muscle regeneration through the secretion of paracrine factors—including immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and angiogenic cytokines—and potentially through direct differentiation into myogenic lineages, thereby improving sphincter function and restoring continence.
