Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are a population of multipotent mesenchymal stem cells harvested from adipose tissue, characterized by their ability to differentiate into various cell types and secrete a potent array of regenerative factors. In the clinical research program led by Jie Shen, these cells are being investigated as a therapeutic intervention for diabetic foot ulcers and peripheral vascular disease. The therapeutic rationale involves the promotion of angiogenesis, modulation of inflammation, and enhancement of tissue repair through paracrine signaling, which collectively aim to overcome the vascular complications and impaired wound healing associated with diabetes. The treatment typically involves the isolation of autologous cells from the patient's fat tissue, followed by processing and local re-injection into the affected area.
