Overview

Adipose mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) are multipotent stromal cells derived from adipose tissue, characterized by their ability to differentiate into various cell lineages, including osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and adipocytes. These cells are increasingly utilized in regenerative medicine due to their potent anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and tissue-repair properties, which are mediated through both direct differentiation and the secretion of paracrine factors such as growth factors and cytokines. In the clinical context, ADSCs are often administered as part of a processed lipoaspirate known as 'nanofat,' which is rich in these stem cells and their associated extracellular matrix. The Third Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University is currently evaluating the efficacy of ADSC-rich nanofat injections for the treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Disease (TMD) in a Phase 1 multicenter randomized controlled study, comparing it against standard treatments like sodium hyaluronate.
