Overview

Adipose tissue-derived stromal cells (ADSCs) are a population of multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) isolated from adipose tissue. These cells possess the capability to differentiate into various cell types, including hepatocyte-like cells, and are characterized by their ability to secrete a wide array of paracrine factors that promote tissue repair, immunomodulation, and angiogenesis. In the context of liver cirrhosis, ADSCs are being investigated for their potential to facilitate liver regeneration by reducing inflammation and fibrosis while stimulating the proliferation of endogenous hepatocytes. Kanazawa University has conducted Phase 1 clinical trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of autologous ADSCs delivered via intra-hepatic artery infusion for patients with liver cirrhosis.
