Adizem-XL

Adizem-XL is an extended-release formulation of diltiazem hydrochloride, a benzothiazepine calcium channel blocker developed and marketed by Napp Pharmaceuticals. It is primarily indicated for the management of angina pectoris and the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension. The drug works by inhibiting L-type (voltage-gated) calcium channels in cardiac and vascular smooth muscle, which leads to peripheral and coronary vasodilation, a reduction in heart rate, and decreased myocardial contractility. This once-daily oral capsule formulation is designed to provide a sustained therapeutic effect over a 24-hour period, eliminating high peak plasma concentrations and improving patient compliance compared to immediate-release alternatives.
