Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GSK's adjuvanted pandemic influenza vaccine (H5N1) is an inactivated split-virion vaccine designed for active immunization against the H5N1 subtype of Influenza A virus. The vaccine formulation consists of a low dose (3.75 μg) of hemagglutinin antigen derived from H5N1 strains, such as A/Vietnam/1194/2004 or A/Indonesia/5/2005, combined with the proprietary AS03 adjuvant system. AS03 is an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, DL-α-tocopherol, and polysorbate 80, which functions to enhance the immune response, allowing for significant antigen-sparing and providing broader cross-clade immunity. Marketed under brand names such as Adjupanrix, Q-Pan, and Arepanrix, it was approved by the FDA in 2013 and the EMA in 2009 for use in pandemic or pre-pandemic situations.
