Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination refers to the co-administration of an MF59-adjuvanted trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (eTIV_a) and a 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23). eTIV_a, marketed as Fluad, is an egg-derived vaccine designed to enhance the immune response in older adults (65+) against three strains of influenza (two A subtypes and one B lineage) by utilizing the MF59 oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant. PPV23, marketed as Pneumovax 23, provides protection against 23 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae, which are responsible for the majority of invasive pneumococcal disease. Co-administration of these vaccines is a common clinical strategy to improve immunization coverage in the elderly, and clinical trials have demonstrated that simultaneous administration at separate sites is safe and maintains the immunogenicity of both vaccines.
