Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AdNEU3 is an adenoviral gene therapy vector encoding human sialidase-3 (NEU3), a plasma membrane-associated sialidase that preferentially hydrolyzes sialic acid residues on gangliosides. Developed by researchers at Tohoku University and the Miyagi Prefectural Cancer Center, AdNEU3 is designed to overexpress NEU3 in the liver. In preclinical models of type 2 diabetes and diet-induced obesity, hepatic overexpression of NEU3 modifies ganglioside composition (specifically reducing GM3, a negative regulator of insulin signaling) to enhance insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS-1) tyrosine phosphorylation, thereby improving insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance.
