Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ADO12 (also known as AdoShell Islets) is an implantable, fully retrievable, non-fibrotic immunoprotective hydrogel-based encapsulation system developed by Adocia for the transplantation of pancreatic islets (either human islets of Langerhans or stem cell-derived islets) to treat type 1 diabetes. The system is designed to allow the diffusion of insulin and glucose while preventing the invasion of immune cells and antibodies, thereby eliminating the need for lifelong immunosuppressive therapy. ADO12 consists of a non-degradable hydrogel cross-linked by bio-orthogonal chemistry, reinforced with a surgical mesh, and sandwiched in a suturable silicon ring, making it compatible with laparoscopic implantation and retrieval.
