This is an autologous adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by the Chinese PLA General Hospital for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), often used in combination with microwave ablation (MWA). The therapy involves the ex vivo expansion and activation of multiple immune cell types from the patient's own peripheral blood, including cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells, dendritic cell-cytokine-induced killer (DC-CIK) cells, and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). The treatment protocol is complex, involving intravenous infusion of CIK cells, intraperitoneal injection of DC-CIK and CTLs, and intralesional/intranodal injection of dendritic cells. This multi-pronged approach aims to enhance the systemic anti-tumor immune response, eradicate residual micro-metastases, and prevent recurrence in HCC patients.
