Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**AdoShell Islets** is an investigational implantable allogeneic islet-cell therapy developed by Adocia for **type 1 diabetes**. The product encapsulates pancreatic islets of Langerhans, including donor-derived islets and potentially stem cell-derived islets, within AdoShell, a permselective immunoprotective hydrogel scaffold. The scaffold permits glucose, oxygen, nutrients, and secreted insulin to diffuse while limiting immune-cell infiltration, with the goal of restoring glucose-responsive endogenous insulin secretion without chronic systemic immunosuppression. It is designed for minimally invasive implantation and retrievability. Adocia reports sustained glycemic control in immunocompetent diabetic animal models without immunosuppression; its current pipeline lists a first-in-human submission for human-islet product as on hold.
