Overview

ADPO-007NP is a preclinical-stage drug candidate being developed by Adipo Therapeutics as a first-in-class treatment for obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The formulation consists of a Notch pathway inhibitor encapsulated within poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanoparticles, designed for once-weekly subcutaneous injection directly into adipose tissue. The drug's mechanism of action involves inhibiting the Notch signaling pathway, which triggers the conversion of energy-storing white adipose tissue (WAT) into energy-burning beige or brown adipose tissue (BAT). This 'browning' process increases mitochondrial biogenesis and energy expenditure, providing a localized metabolic approach to weight loss and glycemic control. As of early 2024, the candidate remains in preclinical development, with positive results demonstrated in animal models and human adipose tissue explants.
