ADR-001 is an allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell (ASC) therapy developed by Rohto Pharmaceutical. It consists of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) extracted from human subcutaneous adipose tissue and expanded in culture. ADR-001 exerts its therapeutic effects through immunomodulatory and regenerative properties, including the secretion of growth factors such as hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), as well as anti-inflammatory cytokines that modulate leukocyte activity and promote tissue repair. The therapy is being investigated for various inflammatory and fibrotic conditions, including refractory immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy, decompensated liver cirrhosis, and severe pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). In clinical trials for IgA nephropathy, ADR-001 has demonstrated safety and tolerability, with transient reductions in urinary protein levels and kidney damage markers.
