Overview

Adrenalone is a beta-ketoanalog of adrenaline, a small molecule that has been investigated for various pharmacological effects. It is currently being studied in a hydrogel-based drug delivery system for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA) due to its ability to induce cutaneous vasoconstriction. Historically, adrenalone has demonstrated radioprotective effects and has been explored for its potential in treating asthma and asthmatiform dyspneas. In research settings, it is utilized as an inhibitor of organic cation transporters (OCTs) and organic anion transporting polypeptides (OATPs) to study the hepatic uptake mechanisms of other drugs. It has also been shown to inhibit dopamine beta oxidase and norepinephrine synthesis.
