Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of adriamycin (the brand name for doxorubicin) and vindesine. Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that acts as a cytotoxic agent by intercalating DNA, inhibiting topoisomerase II, and generating free radicals leading to DNA damage and cell death[3][6]. Vindesine is a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation in mitotic spindle fibers, thereby arresting cell division at metaphase. The combination of these two agents targets cancer cells through complementary mechanisms—doxorubicin disrupts DNA processes while vindesine impairs mitosis—making the regimen effective against rapidly dividing tumor cells. This combination has been used in the treatment of various cancers including lymphomas and sarcomas.
