Overview

AD32 is a synthetic derivative of doxorubicin, specifically doxorubicin 2-iodobenzoate, developed as an **antineoplastic (anticancer) agent**. Like doxorubicin, it is classified as an anthracycline antibiotic and exerts its primary mechanism of action by intercalating with DNA and inhibiting the enzyme topoisomerase II, thereby interfering with DNA replication and transcription in rapidly dividing tumor cells. The chemical modification is intended to alter pharmacokinetics or reduce toxicity compared to conventional doxorubicin. AD32 has been investigated for use in superficial bladder cancer and other malignancies as a local chemotherapeutic agent.
