Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AdSmCB is a recombinant human adenovirus serotype 5 (HAdV-5) viral vector vaccine expressing *Schistosoma mansoni* cathepsin B (SmCB), a parasitic gut peptidase essential for helminth growth and maturation. Developed by researchers at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre and the National Research Council Canada, AdSmCB is designed as a prophylactic vaccine for intestinal schistosomiasis. In preclinical models, intramuscular administration of AdSmCB followed by recombinant protein boosts (such as SmCB adjuvanted with AddaVax) elicits robust humoral and cell-mediated immune responses, including antigen-specific IgG1, IgG2c, serum IgA, and Th1/Th2 cytokines, leading to a significant reduction in parasite burden and associated liver pathology.
