The pertussis component is acellular, typically consisting of purified pertussis toxoid (PT) and filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), which are safer alternatives to whole-cell pertussis vaccines. These antigens are adsorbed onto an aluminum-based adjuvant (such as aluminum hydroxide) to enhance the immune response.
