ADSTEM is an autologous cell therapy product consisting of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) harvested from a patient's own abdominal fat. Developed by the University Hospital of North Norway, it is currently being investigated for the treatment of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. The therapy is administered via intra-articular injection, either as a monotherapy or in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The mechanism of action leverages the immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties of mesenchymal stem cells, which are thought to reduce joint inflammation and potentially promote the repair of damaged cartilage. It is being evaluated in a Phase 2/3 clinical trial (NCT05562141) to compare its clinical and radiological outcomes against PRP and placebo.
