aducanumab

Aducanumab is a monoclonal antibody developed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It selectively binds to aggregated forms of amyloid beta (Aβ) in both oligomeric and fibrillar states, but not to monomeric Aβ. By targeting these aggregates, aducanumab promotes their removal from the brain, which is believed to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease according to the amyloid hypothesis. The drug was derived from patients with slow or absent cognitive decline and has demonstrated reduction in amyloid plaques as measured by PET imaging. Aducanumab is indicated for use in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease.
