Overview
AdvaCoat Mx is an investigational drug-device combination product developed by Carbylan BioSurgery (later Carbylan Therapeutics) for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). It is a bioresorbable, steroid-eluting sinus gel composed of a proprietary chemically cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogel that incorporates mometasone furoate, a synthetic corticosteroid. The product is designed to provide localized, sustained delivery of the steroid to the sinus mucosa to reduce inflammation and improve clinical outcomes in patients with CRS, including those without nasal polyps. A Phase 2 clinical trial was conducted in the Netherlands to evaluate its safety and efficacy compared to placebo gel and saline. Following the merger of Carbylan Therapeutics with KalVista Pharmaceuticals in 2016, development of the AdvaCoat platform was not prioritized and is considered discontinued.
