Overview

AdvVEGF-D is an angiogenic gene therapy being developed for the treatment of refractory angina pectoris. It consists of an adenoviral vector carrying the vascular endothelial growth factor D (VEGF-D) gene, specifically a variant lacking the N- and C-terminal regions (VEGF-DΔNΔC). The therapy is delivered via catheter-mediated intramyocardial injection and aims to stimulate angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) and improve myocardial perfusion in patients with refractory angina who cannot undergo conventional revascularization procedures. Clinical trials, including the Phase 1/2a KAT301 trial and the ongoing Phase 2 ReGenHeart trial, have evaluated its safety and efficacy, showing promise in reducing angina symptoms, increasing myocardial perfusion, and improving quality of life.
