Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Adynovate (rurioctocog alfa pegol) is a PEGylated recombinant antihemophilic factor (Factor VIII) developed for the treatment of hemophilia A. It is based on octocog alfa, a full-length recombinant Factor VIII, but utilizes proprietary PEGylation technology to extend the circulating half-life of the protein. This modification allows for a less frequent prophylactic dosing schedule (typically twice weekly) compared to non-modified Factor VIII products while maintaining efficacy in preventing and controlling bleeding episodes. Originally developed by Baxalta (which was acquired by Shire, and subsequently by Takeda), Adynovate is indicated for use in both adults and children with hemophilia A for on-demand treatment, perioperative management, and routine prophylaxis. It functions as a replacement therapy, restoring the intrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade by acting as a cofactor for factor IXa in the activation of factor X.
