AEB3103 is a preclinical-stage engineered human enzyme designed to systemically deplete the amino acids cysteine and cystine. Developed by Aeglea BioTherapeutics through technology licensed from the University of Texas at Austin, the drug candidate is intended for the treatment of cancers that exhibit metabolic dependencies on external cysteine/cystine (cysteine auxotrophy). By degrading these amino acids in the blood, AEB3103 aims to starve tumor cells, leading to increased oxidative stress and apoptosis. The program was part of Aeglea's pipeline of engineered human enzymes, which also included candidates like pegzilarginase (AEB1102) and AEB2109.
