Overview
Aedon is an atypical antipsychotic medication containing the active ingredient olanzapine, marketed by G.L. Pharma. It is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia and moderate to severe manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. Additionally, it is used for phase prophylaxis in patients with bipolar disorder whose manic episodes have previously responded to olanzapine treatment. The drug's mechanism of action involves potent antagonism at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, along with activity at various other neurotransmitter receptors including serotonin (5-HT2C, 5-HT3, 5-HT6), dopamine (D1, D3, D4), muscarinic (M1-M5), histamine (H1), and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. It is administered orally and is available in multiple strengths.
