Overview

AEF0117 is a first-in-class synthetic Signaling Specific Inhibitor (SSI) of the cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1), developed for the treatment of cannabis use disorder. It is engineered to selectively inhibit CB1 receptor signaling without inducing the adverse effects typically associated with classical CB1 antagonists, such as increased anxiety and depression. AEF0117 has demonstrated pharmacological activity in reducing cannabis use and is well tolerated in clinical trials[5][6][8]. The drug was developed by Aelis Farma in collaboration with Columbia University, National Institute on Drug Abuse, and New York State Psychiatric Institute[5].
