Overview

**AEG35156 + paclitaxel** is a combination therapy composed of AEG35156 (also known as GEM640), an antisense oligonucleotide targeting X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP), and paclitaxel, a microtubule-stabilizing chemotherapeutic agent. AEG35156 is designed to decrease XIAP mRNA and protein expression, promoting apoptosis in cancer cells. Paclitaxel promotes cell death by stabilizing tubulin and preventing microtubule disassembly during cell division. This combination has been primarily investigated for advanced and metastatic breast cancer in clinical trials, hypothesizing increased cancer cell apoptosis through dual mechanisms: XIAP inhibition and mitotic arrest by microtubule stabilization[3][6][8].
