Overview

AEOL-10150 is a synthetic small molecule catalytic antioxidant developed primarily by Aeolus Pharmaceuticals. It is a manganese porphyrin compound designed to mimic and amplify the body's natural enzymatic systems for eliminating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen species. By scavenging free radicals and inhibiting oxidative stress pathways, it aims to reduce inflammation and tissue damage associated with radiation exposure or chronic diseases. The drug has been investigated as a medical countermeasure against acute radiation syndrome (ARS), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and as an adjunct in cancer radiotherapy to protect healthy tissue without compromising anti-tumor efficacy. Despite promising preclinical results and early-phase clinical trials demonstrating safety and tolerability, development for all indications has been discontinued[1][2][5][6].
