AEOL 11207

AEOL 11207 is a novel, orally available, lipophilic metalloporphyrin catalytic antioxidant developed by Aeolus Pharmaceuticals. The compound features a manganese center that enables the detoxification of a wide range of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxide radicals. As a small molecule, it exhibits potent hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity and inhibits mitochondrial ROS production. AEOL 11207 is designed to cross the blood-brain barrier and has demonstrated high oral bioavailability (>80%) in preclinical studies. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of central nervous system disorders, including Parkinson's disease and epilepsy, as well as inherited mitochondrial disorders, showing dose-dependent neuroprotection in animal models.
