Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AER003 is a long-acting monoclonal antibody being developed by Aerium Therapeutics for prophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19 in high-risk and immunocompromised individuals. It targets the receptor binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein at many of the same residues contacted by the human ACE2 receptor, thereby competitively blocking viral attachment and entry into host cells and providing a high barrier to viral escape.[1][11][5] In preclinical evaluations, AER003 has shown potent neutralizing activity against prior and currently predominant SARS-CoV-2 variants and is intended for use alone or as part of combination products, such as AER800, to broaden coverage of ACE2 binding sites and mitigate resistance.[1][5][11]
