Overview

Aerucin is a fully human monoclonal IgG1 antibody developed to target and treat infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, particularly hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia. It binds specifically to alginate, a cell surface polysaccharide widely distributed on P. aeruginosa. By binding alginate, Aerucin enhances complement deposition on the bacterial surface, which improves immune recognition and promotes phagocytic destruction of the bacteria by the host immune system. Preclinical studies have shown that Aerucin is effective against more than 90% of clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa—including both mucoid and non-mucoid as well as antibiotic-resistant strains—and can be used therapeutically or prophylactically in animal models for pneumonia, sepsis, and eye infections. The drug is being developed as an adjunctive therapy in combination with standard antibiotics for critically ill patients[1][3][7][8].
