Flogencyl is a topical gel formulation of beta-aescin anhydrous (also known as aescin or escin), a triterpenoid saponin derived from the seeds of the horse chestnut tree (*Aesculus hippocastanum*). Developed by Marinomed Biotechnologie GmbH under the internal code MAM-06.301, it is being investigated for its anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous properties. The drug is specifically being evaluated in Phase IIa clinical trials for the treatment of type I hypersensitivity reactions, such as pollen and cat allergies, by reducing experimentally induced itch, wheal, and flare reactions. Its mechanism of action involves stabilizing vascular permeability and potentially inhibiting mast cell degranulation. It is also marketed as a 1.5% gingival gel by Expanpharm International for oral health applications.
