Overview

Aescuven is an herbal medicinal product whose primary active ingredient is aescin (also known as escin), a mixture of saponins extracted from the seeds of the horse chestnut tree (Aesculus hippocastanum). It is used mainly for the treatment of symptoms associated with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), such as swollen legs, varicose veins, heaviness and tension in the legs, itching, tiredness, pain in the legs, and calf cramps. The mechanism of action involves anti-inflammatory and vasoprotective effects; aescin strengthens vein walls and reduces capillary permeability by inhibiting enzymes that degrade vascular walls. This leads to reduced edema formation and improved venous tone. Aescin also exhibits mild blood-thinning properties due to its effect on vascular permeability[3][4][5].
