Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AET-1978 is a patent-pending, custom-designed bone morphogenetic protein-7 (BMP-7) mRNA formulated in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Developed by researchers at the Houston Methodist Research Institute, AET-1978 is designed to suppress endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndoMT) and attenuate cardiac fibrosis. In preclinical models of non-ischemic heart failure, subcutaneous administration of AET-1978 significantly improved left ventricular systolic and diastolic function, reduced myocardial fibrosis, and preserved endothelial phenotype and function without causing systemic toxicity. This transient, non-integrating mRNA therapeutic platform represents a novel approach to targeting residual fibrotic pathways in heart failure.
