Overview

AEX-23 is a preclinical small molecule compound being developed by Aexon Labs, with development rights licensed to NLS Pharmaceutics, for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and other synucleinopathies. It functions as an orexin-1 receptor (OX1R) agonist and an inhibitor of alpha-synuclein aggregation. Part of Aexon Labs' non-sulfonamide dual orexin receptor agonist (DOXA) platform, AEX-23 aims to address neuronal health by combining OX1R activation with the modulation of alpha-synuclein dynamics and the promotion of neurite outgrowth. Preclinical data in Alpha-Synuclein A53T Parkinson's disease cell models have demonstrated its ability to enhance neurite outgrowth and provide neuroprotection under alpha-synuclein-induced stress conditions. Successor compounds AEX-230 and AEX-231 are also being developed based on the AEX-23 profile.
