**AEZS-150** is a proprietary fusion protein developed by Aeterna Zentaris for the potential treatment of chronic hypoparathyroidism, an orphan disease characterized by low parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels leading to hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, renal dysfunction, muscle cramping, seizures, and cardiac arrhythmias. It consists of PTH[1-34] (the biologically active N-terminal fragment of parathyroid hormone) fused to a modified human growth hormone binding protein (GHBP) to extend its half-life, aiming to enable weekly subcutaneous dosing instead of daily injections with current therapies like synthetic PTH analogs. Preclinical studies in in vitro and in vivo models of hypoparathyroidism demonstrate its ability to maintain consistent blood calcium and phosphate levels longer than standard treatments, addressing unmet needs in this condition affecting approximately 23-37 per 100,000 individuals in Europe and the US.[2][3][4][5]
