Overview

AFA-2000 is a preclinical small molecule drug candidate being developed by AfaSci, Inc. It functions as a modulator of G protein-coupled inwardly rectifying potassium (GIRK) channels. By directly activating these channels, the compound aims to reduce neuronal excitability, offering a potential therapeutic approach for chronic and neuropathic pain as well as sleep disorders such as insomnia. Research indicates that GIRK activation can promote non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep. The drug is currently in the lead optimization stage of development.
