Overview

AFC-1 is a specific fucoidan fraction isolated from the brown seaweed *Ascophyllum nodosum* (Iceland brown algae). It is a sulfated polysaccharide primarily composed of fucose and xylose, with a sulfate content of approximately 27.8% and sulfation occurring at the C2 and C4 positions. In preclinical research, AFC-1 has demonstrated anti-hyperlipidemic and antioxidant properties, effectively improving lipid profiles and blood glucose levels in high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemia models. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of lipoprotein metabolism and oxidative stress-related enzymes, as well as the preservation of gut microbiota diversity.
