Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Afebryl is an over-the-counter combination effervescent tablet containing acetylsalicylic acid (300 mg), paracetamol (200 mg), and ascorbic acid (300 mg). It is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain and fever, particularly during flu-like conditions and upper respiratory tract infections. Acetylsalicylic acid and paracetamol act as analgesics and antipyretics by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis via cyclooxygenase (COX) pathways, while ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is included to support cellular oxidation-reduction reactions and prevent vitamin C deficiency during acute infections. Originally developed by Laboratoires SMB and marketed in Portugal by Laboratórios Azevedos, Afebryl is administered orally after being dissolved in water.
