Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Affitope AD02 is a synthetic peptide-based vaccine developed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It consists of a six-amino-acid peptide that mimics the N-terminus of amyloid-beta (Aβ), designed to elicit an immune response specifically against Aβ without cross-reacting with amyloid precursor protein (APP). The goal is to generate anti-Aβ antibodies while minimizing T cell-mediated inflammatory responses, potentially offering a favorable safety profile. Developed using AFFITOME technology by AFFiRiS, this subunit vaccine was evaluated in phase 1 and phase 2 clinical trials for early-stage Alzheimer's disease but did not meet primary or secondary endpoints in phase 2 studies and its development has been discontinued[1][2][3][5][6].
