It is primarily used as a nutritional supplement to reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis and improve joint flexibility and function. The mechanism of action involves: - **Aflapin:** Inhibits inflammatory pathways by selectively blocking 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), reducing pro-inflammatory mediators such as leukotrienes, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-2, and IL-17, and prevents cartilage degradation by inhibiting MMP-3 and MMP-13. - **UC-II collagen:** Induces oral tolerance, activating T regulatory (Treg) cells, which increase production of anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-4, IL-10, and TGF-β, stimulating chondrocytes and promoting cartilage repair and regeneration. Clinical studies suggest this combination can slow osteoarthritis progression and serve as a safer long-term alternative to NSAIDs. It is taken orally, often as a once-daily capsule, and is generally well tolerated, with possible mild gastrointestinal side effects. It is not indicated for use during pregnancy or lactation due to insufficient safety data[1][3][5][7].
