Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AFN005 is an mRNA-based vaccine candidate developed by Hefei Afana Biotechnology for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. The vaccine utilizes lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology to deliver messenger RNA encoding the RSV fusion (F) protein, which is a key target for neutralizing antibodies. By instructing host cells to produce the F protein, AFN005 stimulates both humoral and cellular immune responses to protect against RSV-related lower respiratory tract disease. It is primarily being developed for use in high-risk populations, including infants and older adults, and represents a significant advancement in the application of mRNA technology beyond COVID-19.
