Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aframomum danielli extract is a botanical research compound derived from the seeds of *Aframomum danielli*, a plant in the Zingiberaceae family. It contains a variety of bioactive phytochemicals, including long-chain polyprenyl benzoquinone derivatives (such as phytylplastoquinone), alkaloids, and polyphenols. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its potential as an anti-inflammatory agent through the inhibition of arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase. Additionally, it has shown inhibitory activity against alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase, suggesting potential applications in glycemic management and diabetes. Other research has explored its antimicrobial properties against pathogens like *Salmonella typhi* and its effects on sexual health via phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) and arginase inhibition. It is currently not in formal clinical development and has no known commercial sponsor.
