Overview

African Ginger (Phyto Nova) is a traditional herbal supplement derived from the rhizomes of the indigenous South African plant *Siphonochilus aethiopicus*. Formulated as a 100mg oral tablet, it was developed and marketed by Phyto Nova Pty Ltd, a South African company focused on traditional African plant medicines. The supplement was traditionally used for its purported anti-inflammatory and bronchodilatory properties to manage respiratory conditions such as asthma, sinusitis, and the common cold, as well as digestive issues. The primary bioactive markers in the extract are sesquiterpenoids, specifically siphonochilone. Phyto Nova Pty Ltd has since been dissolved, and the product is no longer actively marketed by the original developer.
