Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Afriplex GRT is a proprietary, aspalathin-rich green rooibos extract derived from the unfermented leaves of *Aspalathus linearis*. Developed by the South African company Afriplex, this botanical extract is specifically processed to preserve high levels of aspalathin, a unique C-glucosyl dihydrochalcone with potent metabolic and antioxidant properties. Afriplex GRT is primarily investigated for its ability to mitigate cardiovascular risk factors associated with Type 2 diabetes, including hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and oxidative stress. Clinical and preclinical research indicates that the extract improves glucose tolerance and lipid profiles—specifically lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL)—by modulating the mevalonate pathway and reducing the levels of circulating oxidized LDL.
